At my school, freshmen started without a major anyway, and there were a lot more pre-meds, percentage-wise, than most other schools I believe In the end, I decided to double-major across 2 very different disciplines. I had always been interested in bio and chem stuffs, and being surrounded by pre-meds, I considered it at one point, too. My grades were pretty bad (GPA一開始連3都沒有,後來才拉到3的,好在沒拿過F,靠著高中拿的AP學分還是能提早畢業了). Maybe if I just wanted to apply to some not-so-good med schools and did extensive volunteer work, maybe I still had a shot, but I am kind of afraid of blood anyway, so eventually I decided it wasn't for me. I was one of those very few kids that got a bachelor's degree in a bio-related field but decided not to go for a postgraduate degree (碩士跟bio不相關了). In fact, without citizenship or PR, it is quite difficult to get into a med school in the US. It would be a waste of American resources, if someone graduated from a US medical school could not actually work in the US afterwards, at least that was what I heard. I think this is different from most other postgraduate schools, where the applicant's immigration status doesn't matter as much (不過樓主如果是唸public university - in fact one of the candidates within a couple of hours from Chicago that someone else mentioned earlier is where my parents went to grad school - 可能undergrad的申請in-state跟out-of-state還是有差距的吧).

After I completed my OPT, I went back to Taiwan and worked at 2 different companies, a year each, but I really could not get used to the corporate culture here.

其實也沒跟med school差很多,but considering his privacy, I think I should not disclose much further than that.* P4 N% w% B7 J! I" ~, S7 U; j8 M

There will be more. All written already, just not sure how I can get them posted. |
